Ingredients:
- Fish fillets (tilapia, cod, catfish, or any white fish of your choice)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste, for a bit of heat)
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Lemon wedges for serving
Instructions:
Prepare the Fish:
- Rinse the fish fillets under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- If the fillets are large, you can cut them into smaller, more manageable pieces.
Season the Flour:
- In a shallow dish, mix the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper. This will be your coating mixture.
Coat with Flour Mixture:
- Dredge the fish fillet in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring an even coating. Press the flour mixture onto the fish to help it adhere.
Heat the Oil:
- In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat about 1-2 inches of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350-375°F (175-190°C).
Fry the Fish:
- Carefully place the coated fish fillets into the hot oil. Fry for about 3-5 minutes per side, or until the fish is golden brown and cooked through. The cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of your fillets.
Drain and Serve:
- Use a slotted spoon or tongs to remove the fried fish from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Serve:
- Serve the fried fish hot, with lemon wedges on the side. You can also serve it with tartar sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
